The Sound of Colour : How Music Shapes My Art

Art and music have always been intertwined, two languages that speak directly to the soul. For me, that connection isn’t just abstract—it’s essential to how I create. I always have music on while I paint—sometimes it’s a song with lyrics that mirror my emotions, and other times it’s just an instrumental that lets my thoughts drift. Either way, music isn’t just background noise; it shapes every brushstroke, colour choice, and layer of meaning in my work.

When I listen to music, I don’t just hear it—I feel it. I tune into the melody, the subtle shifts in instrumentation, and the lyrics that carry weight beyond words. Even though I don’t have any musical talent, music pulls me in deeply, and that emotional connection finds its way onto my canvas. My art is a visual echo of the feelings music stirs within me.

My most recent painting, ‘TETHERED ’, is a perfect example of this connection. While creating it, I was immersed in "I Won’t Let Go" by Claudia Isaki. The song reflects the exact tension I was trying to capture—the push and pull of emotions, the feeling of drifting while still being anchored by something greater. The deep purple silhouette represents introspection and quiet strength, while the swirling hues of light blue, yellow, rose, crimson red, and white embody the chaotic beauty of raw emotion.

Just like the song, the painting speaks to the balance between surrendering to what we feel and finding steady ground beneath it all.

This dialogue between music and art flows through almost everything I create. Sometimes it’s a lyric that sparks an idea, or a rhythm that guides the flow of the brush. Even when it’s just an instrumental, the music helps me tap into emotions that might otherwise stay hidden.

Art is my language of expression, and music is often the catalyst. Together, they create a space where emotions are not just felt but seen—a place where sound becomes colour and silence finds form. I hope that when you view my art, you not only see the colours and shapes but also sense the music behind them. Maybe you’ll even hear your own melody in the mix.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, where each piece is more than just an image—it’s also a song waiting to be heard.
